Dealing with algae is part of owning a pool whether you like it or not.
No matter how big or small the pool is, you will need to micromanage the algae that grows in it at some point.
One of the best ways that you can make sure that the least amount of algae grows in your pool is to use a pool vacuum that is designed to reduce these algae levels.
There are many pool vacuums that manage and reduce algae levels, but only a select few pool vacuums stand out as the best.

Before taking a look at some of these pool vacuums, you should have a good idea of what to consider before buying one as well, since pool vacuums for algae are capable of doing different things.
Butterfly pool vacuum heads offer quite a bit when you need to vacuum a pool that is curved. The sides of the head easily glide across the sides of the pool and you will be able to clear particles easily this way.
Connecting US Pool Supply's vacuum head to a hose is easy as well. It clips on and contains a swivel connection, which makes it even easier to move around. This makes US Pool Supply's vacuum head a good choice, especially if you need it for a public pool where different staff members need to use it.
US Pool Supply's vacuum head will struggle a little bit when it is used on pools with a pebble finish. This is because the bristles on the bottom of it move a little more rough on these surfaces compared to the standard surfaces that most pools contain.
You will also need to be a little more careful using US Pool Supply's vacuum head. It has a tendency to pop off of the hose, falling off just as easily as it comes on. This can make for a frustrating experience at times. US Pool Supply's vacuum head is not really designed for frequent use because of this despite how easy it is to use.
Cleaning bigger pools can be a herculean task if you are using a common pool vacuum. Doing this can take hours, especially if you possess a vacuum head that is not really designed for large pools.
This problem is decisively solved with the Pro Vac, by Pentair. The head of the Pro Vac is extremely long and this will cover a lot of ground, making it perfect for large pools.
The Pro Vac's head also contains a swivel attachment which allows it to cover ground along the sides of the pool as well. You do not need to yank the entire pool vacuum off the bottom of the pool in order to clean the sides of it.
There are a couple of things that prevent the Pro Vac from being perfect. First, the vacuum head is so wide that it tends to sacrifice power for area. Although it covers a lot of ground, you'll need to take some extra time to make sure it cleans everything.
The swivel attachment is also a double-edged sword. While you do not need to yank the vacuum off the bottom of the pool to clean the sides, the swivel attachment also makes it difficult to pull the unit off the bottom of the pool when you are finished.
Most pool vacuum heads lack versatility.
While nearly all of them hook onto a vacuum hose, they can usually only connect to either a 1.25'' or 1.5'' vacuum hose, Milliard's pool vacuum head can connect to hoses of both sizes. This allows you to use it for a good array of pool vacuum hoses.
Milliard's pool vacuum head is also very easy to use and move all around the bottom and sides of the pool. This is made possible by the air relief valves that it contains. This makes it different and much more effective than other pool vacuum heads.
It is a shame that a lot of pool vacuum heads do not last as long as they should. Fortunately, Milliard's pool vacuum head does not have this issue. It is made from ABS plastic while allows you to use it for a very long time. If you are tired of needing to replace your pool vacuum head constantly, you'll want to consider Milliard's pool vacuum head.
However, like with most other butterfly designed pool vacuum heads, Milliard's vacuum head is not designed for larger pools. The head itself is only 13 inches around and does not produce a lot of power, so if you are tasked with cleaning a large pool with it, prepare to take a lot of time.
A common problem that many pool vacuums possess is that they are only set on one suction strength. This can be troublesome if you are faced with a situation that calls for a little bit more or a little less strength.
Poolmaster's pool vacuum solves this by containing two air relief valves that allow you to adjust the suction strength. This will allow you to be matched up where other pool vacuums struggle to match up to different situations.
The tension spring that Poolmaster's vacuum comes with also makes it stand out in a good way. It is made of stainless steel, which makes it very easy to keep the vacuum level with the floor of the pool. This will make things very easy if you are vacuuming a large pool.
The nylon bristles on Poolmaster's vacuum head are well intentioned, but there is far too much space in between them. You will find yourself cleaning whatever particles you encounter off of the head constantly and this can be a challenge.
Another questionable part about the bristles of Poolmaster's pool vacuum is that there are too many of them. There are bristles on the side as well as the underside and since they are all spaced very far apart, you will need to clean in between practically all the bristles after use.
It can be difficult for a pool vacuum head to stay on a pool floor. Because of the constant buoyancy of the water, you will find that you will need to apply a more than necessary amount of force in order to keep the head on the floor.
Milliard's pool vacuum head solves this problem by containing weighted wheels. These keep the head down. This means you will not need to force the vacuum head to the pool floor if you experience too much buoyancy.
The body of Milliard's pool vacuum head is also curved, which also does a good job of keeping a constant suction which also makes cleaning the bottom of a pool much easier than with other pool vacuum heads.
Milliard's pool vacuum head also comes with a handle adapter. This will allow you to connect it with any standard pool extension pole. This allows for a lot more versatility than what other pool vacuum heads offer.
The only glaring issue with Milliard's pool vacuum head is that its port connection only adjusts to one size: 1.5 inches. This prevents it from being perfectly versatile.
If you are looking for a pool vacuum head for large vacuums that require a lot of area to be cleaned, you'll want to consider FibroPool's pool vacuum head.
Measuring 14.4''x10.5''x2.25'', FibroPool's pool vacuum head is able to cover much more area of your pool than most other pool vacuum heads will. This is essential for very large pools.
Something else that makes FibroPool's vacuum head suitable for large pools is the fact that it has a flexible, thermoplastic body. This allows it to glide along every corner of the pool, from the floor to the sides. Again, this is excellent for large pools.
The last thing that makes FibroPool's vacuum head ideal for large pools are the weights that are connected to it. These weights allow the head to be decisively affixed to the floor. You will not need to worry about it leaving the pool floor at all.
Because it is so heavy, it can be difficult to maneuver FibroPool's vacuum head. Between the size of the head and the weights that are on the head, you will not have an easy time moving it around when compared to other pool vacuum heads.
The urethane wheels on the bottom of FibroPool's vacuum head are well intentioned, but there is a good chance that they might scratch the surface of some pools.
You should understand that a pool vacuum that specializes in micromanaging and even eliminating algae should be a long-term investment.
It doesn't make much sense to run out and buy one sight unseen.
Here are a few things that you should consider when buying a pool vacuum.
Do you host pool parties and barbecues every other weekend with all kinds of people coming over, or do you just go for a casual swim sometimes?
The degree of how often you use the pool definitely affects how much algae can grow in it, since the chlorine in the pool can only eliminate so many algae related toxins.
If you are the type that does use the pool often, you will need a pool vacuum that can eliminate algae producing chemicals quickly.
Public pools are a completely different animal than pools that are exclusive to a home.
For public pools, you'll want a pool vacuum that is easy to use, since you likely will have multiple staff members using it.
You'll also want a vacuum that can clear algae and algae causing substances on a consistent basis because it is impossible to predict how many people will be spending time in said pool.
The size of the pool can also determine how much algae can grow in it.
You might think that the bigger the pool is, the more algae can develop.
While that can be true if the pool is used a lot, algae can develop even more in smaller pools since the spaces are tighter and these spaces can allow algae to thrive.
The deeper the pool, the greater the chance that algae may grow on the bottom.
This is because algae thrives the most in places where there is plenty of room for it to develop.
One of the reasons why you hardly ever see algae develop in hot tubs is because hot tubs are typically not deep at all.
A: While it is possible to directly vacuum algae from a pool, this is usually a bad sign. If you are able to directly vacuum algae from a pool, it usually means that a lot of algae is growing in the pool. The purpose of a pool vacuum is to prevent algae from growing in the pool rather than getting rid of algae that has already grown onto the floor of the pool.
A: There are two reasons why algae keeps developing in your pool. First, you might not be cleaning the bottom of the pool enough. You can solve this by vacuuming your pool's floor when necessary. The chlorine levels in your pool may not be optimal as well. If there is too much or too little chlorine in your pool, algae will develop on the bottom of it.
A: Shocking a pool is, in most cases, a short term solution to removing contaminants from your pool. It is not a long term solution or a permanent solution for removing these contaminants. This is the reason why your pool is still green after shocking it. Certain contaminants in your pool can be removed by shocking it, and certain contaminants need to be removed in different ways.
A: You can add "eliminating algae in pools" to the extensive list of things that baking soda can do. Not only does baking soda kill algae in pools, but it does it well. This is due to the bicarbonate levels in baking soda. If you scrub algae with something that contains baking soda, it will loosen said algae. Scrub it with enough intensity and with enough frequency, and you'll eliminate it completely.
A: When your above ground pool turns green, it means two things. First, it might be exposed to an excess amount of sunlight. This is common in public pools that are not protected by sunlight. This sunlight usually affects the pigment of the water in the pool, but this is harmless. The second reason is because algae may be growing on the bottom of the pool.
A: While it is possible to swim with algae in your pool, it is not recommended. Algae is one of the most common contaminants in any given pool and if you swim inside of a pool that has algae in it, you might develop infections that affect the skin, such as rashes, hives, and other kinds of skin infections. It is highly recommended to clear any pool of algae before swimming in it.

It can be quite a challenge to find a pool vacuum or a pool vacuum head that can clear a pool of algae.
