Mohawk laminate floorings have gotten quite popular as a cheap alternative to expensive hardwood floorings. These floor laminates have real wood like textures and design patterns and yet made out of a different material.
The floors are water and somewhat heatproof. They can last for years even without much care. However, taking some small maintenance from time to time will not only keep these looking beautiful for a long time but also help maintain the quality.
Cleaning a mohawk laminate flooring is easy if you know how to do it. We'll talk about some ideas you can follow to ensure your flooring look beautiful and last a long time -
But laminate floorings have a thin layer of lamination to prevent water or dirt from getting inside the wood and the lamination layer is quite prone to scratch related damages. So take off your vacuum hose brushes before cleaning.
For day to day dust and debris cleaning, vacuuming is the easiest and the safest method. Just make sure not to turn the brushes on to keep the lamination intact. A broken lamination will require a total replacement of the laminate board.
Oil and dirt marks will not go away with vacuuming. For this, using a mop or broom can be a great option to clean laminate flooring. mop the floor with slightly warm water once in a while. Don't wipe for too long or and don't do this very often since the laminate can get damaged with over rubbing.
After each wipe, dry the floor using a clean piece of cloth. Don't let water remain in corners and below the kitchen items. Use a soft cloth to both wipe and dry up. A harsh cloth or material can break the lamination layer.
Good, commercially produced cleaning materials are better than DIY cleaning products. Commercial cleaners are designed specially for specific flooring types and the materials used while making the cleaners are well researched.
However, vinegar and water can be a good cleaning solution if you don't have the means to get a commercially available cleaner or you want to get the job done in a short period of time.
If there's a dirty spot that's hard to clean with normal cleaners, you may use a steam cleaner in the spot. But only for a slight amount. The flooring is not designed to withstand a significant period of heat and will tear away if you do so.
If you still decide to use steam cleaning on a mohawk laminate flooring then lower the heat of your steam machine and reduce the nozzle size. Apply as less steam as possible and immediately wipe off with a clean dry cloth afterward.
Laminate floors waterproof and built to last a long time. You can use water to clean them and it is totally safe. But as time goes by and the strength of a laminate flooring gets weaker, you should be more careful with this.
The floor's corners, where the wood boards meet, will eventually get loose and the corners will start to fray little by little. This will create room for water to get under the lamination and to the floor wood. It can create unexpected problems.
If you have a similar situation then you can use a wet mop, preferably a microfiber cloth to clean the floors. This will ensure that not much water will get inside the wood and protect the lamination.
If your lamination is new then you can rest assured. The floor won't start damaging very soon but knowing how to use water to not get your floors into risk will save you from some risks in the future.
Using a carpet on your laminated floor or using rug mats in front of the doors and bathrooms will make sure the floors are protected from outside dirt and water.
Floors in front of the bathroom are generally damaged quickly because of the constant water contact. Using a rug will protect the floor from water-related damages by a lot.
You can also clean off dirt and water as soon as possible every day. This will be a better idea than having to replace the lamination because it got damaged.
There's another high-end variety of a mohawk laminate floor called redwood. If you prefer the look of premium wood laminations then that can be a good option for you. Both of these can last for a long time if you can follow the simple cleaning ideas.
A good mohawk lamination can stay in a good shape if it's taken well care of. Hopefully, you have good ideas now and can apply these to keep your floor lamination in the best shape for years.
